The killer whale which is also sometimes called the blackfish or orca whale or simply orca, is a toothed whale which belongs to the family of oceanic dolphin. These killer whales have been known to be found in every ocean in the world. These fishes are known to kill many types of other fish species although some kinds of killer whales have specific prey species. These killer fishes not only feed on other fish species, but also hunt other marine mammals including seals, walruses, sea lions, and even other whales. These species are characterized as apex predators, a class of predators which lack natural predators.
Studies show that these whales are quite social, and talk with each other quite frequently. Some of these animals are in possession of quite sophisticated vocal behaviors and hunting techniques, which are found to be passed across generations after generations. Sad to say, some of the local populations of killer whales are now considered endangered as the other fishes are targeting the killer whales as preys along with several other factors which include habitat loss, capture for parks, pollution by PCBs, and conflicts with several fisheries.
Although the wild killer whales can sometimes injure or even kill people, they are generally not even considered as a mild threat to humans, although some of the mythologies surrounding them represent them as merciless killers as rightly so, as when you look at them, they spread a vibe of being one. These are quite dangerous looking whales which intimidate everyone who sees them, as is mentioned by its name.
